Last week I gave you the Chord MIDI Effect Cheat Sheet. This week we check out the Major and Minor Chord Generators.
The Chord Generators are two MIDI Effect Racks that lets you build complex chords with just turning knobs and hitting one note!
you can add up to 8 intervals with 3 different inversions which will give you up to 72 different chord options for each key!
There are two versions:
– Major Chord Generator
– Minor Chord Generator.
Each of these racks have 8 Macro controls, Each Macro will add another voice to the chord. Each voice have 3 inversions.
Tip for Using: Try to automate the Macors and place just single notes in your MIDI clips. this will potentially give you Chord Progression with a lot of inversions and voice leading which might be hard to compose without these tools if you don’t have any music theory knowledge.
Installation
1. Unzip the file.
2. Double-Click on the file to open it up in Ableton Live
3. Hit the Save button on the top right corner of the Device
For which versions of Live? Thanks much
Hey Chad,
This device should work in Ableton Live 9. Created on Ableton Live 9.1.2
Is there a way to download this Chord-Generators, since it’s free, without having to input credit card info.
Not to keen on this kind of procedures.

This makes no sense:
“Tip for Using: Try to automate the Macors and place just single notes in your MIDI clips. this will potentially give you Chord Progression with a lot of inversions and voice leading which might be hard to compose without these tools if you don’t have any music theory knowledge.”
This says that if I use single notes in my midi clip I will get lots of inversions and voice leading which then makes everything harder… So how is that a Tip?
Yes, You are right. It is intended to make complex chord progression and inversion. That’s the whole point. It might be hard to manage but it will be very hard for people without music theory to get there in the first place.
HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF A DROP DOWN MENU WITH SAMPLES ATTACHED.
YOU COULD HEAR THE PIANO OR GUITAR SAMPLE PLAY THE CHORD. YOU COULD ALSO ADD TABLATURE FOR FINGERINGS ON THE GUITAR OR PIANO.
YOU COULD EVEN HAVE A SUB DROP DOWN WITH GENRE’S (JAZZ CHORDS, COUNTRY CHORDS, POWER CHORD, ROCK, ARPEGGIOS, ETC.).
EACH FILE WOULD HAVE 3 POSSIBLE ATTACHMENTS (AUDIO, TABLATURE AND GENRE). EVEN VIDEO?
YOU HAVE A WATERED DOWN VERSION OF SOMETHING I’VE BEEN WANTING TO CREATE FOR MANY YEARS.
HAVING THE IDEA AND IMPLEMENTING THE IDEA CAN BE AN OCEAN APART.
YOU HAVE A GREAT PRODUCT WHILE MY FEAT AREN’T EVEN WET.
IF THESE IDEAS SPARK YOUR CURIOSITY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
MUSICALLY YOURS
STEVE RICE
Sounds like a great Max for Live or a plugin idea!
Thanks for your effort!
how can I download it for free please?
