Music Theory - Bass Overview

This beginner friendly workshop focus on how to compose a compelling basslines that carry the groove of the tune and/or adding to the emotional impact of the tune with melodic movement.

Music Theory Foundations: The workshop starts with the essentials of music theory, providing a solid base for understanding harmony and melody.

Bass Music Theory: Building on the fundamentals, we'll explore how music theory applies specifically to bass. This includes understanding the role of bass in creating the harmonic and rhythmic foundation of your music.

Creating with Root Notes: We will explore how to craft compelling basslines using just the root notes of chords. How to use the power of rhythm and articulation in creating impactful basslines.

Beyond Octaves: Expand beyond basic techniques like using octaves. You'll explore incorporating fifths and other intervals to create more melodic and interesting basslines.

Bass Articulations: This section focuses on the different ways bass notes can be played and how to use key switches.

Glides & Seeds: We'll explore specific Ableton techniques like 808 bass glides and using the new MIDI tools to create dynamic and interesting basslines.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Yeuda Ben-Atar, a world renowned Ableton Certified Trainer, hails from Los Angeles, California. Originally from Israel, Yeuda’s passion for music led him to the United States, where he discovered his true calling with Ableton Live in 2007, embarking on a journey of mastery.

He approaches Ableton in a unique way; producing and performing with video game controllers under the moniker Side Brain.

One of Yeuda’s most remarkable qualities is his exceptional knowledge and speed, combined with his unparalleled ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and engaging manner.

With years of experience as a music production instructor and educator, Yeuda has contributed his expertise to prestigious institutions throughout the United States, including USC, UCLA, UCSD, Colburn Music School, Berkley School of Music, Cal Arts, NAMM, Skywalker Sounds, Bedrock LA, Sonos Studios, Sweetwater Headquarters, 1500 or Nothing studios, Grammy U, Pensado’s Place, Vintage King, Museum of Making Music, Lynda.com (now known as Linkedin Learning), and Perfect Circuit Audio, among many others.
