Session View Mastery Overview

Unlock the full power of Ableton Live’s Session View in this focused online workshop designed for producers and performers alike. Whether you’re new to Live or looking to deepen your workflow of live looping, performance, and arrangement techniques, this session will transform the way you use Session View.

We'll cover:

  • How to Session View: A foundational breakdown of how Session View works and why it’s essential for non-linear music creation, song sketching improvisation, Ableton DJing and live performance.

  • Using Generic Controllers vs. Dedicated Grid Controllers: Learn the pros and cons of each type of controller, and how to map them effectively for expressive performance and clip control.

  • Performance Clips: Explore creative dummy clip use and configurations used for builds, fills, transitions, and FX tricks to enhance your live sets.

  • Follow Actions Deep Dive: Go beyond the basics to master probabilistic clip sequencing, Instrument and FX switching, generative patterns, music production with follow actions, and advanced chaining techniques.

  • Headphone Mix/Metronome and Cue Tracks: Set up a flexible cue system for live shows and practice sessions, including separate metronome routing and monitor mixes.

  • Arrangement → Session: Learn how to convert arrangements into performance-ready scenes and clips for live remixing and rework sets.

  • Easy Lead-Ins: Use Consolidate to New Scene techniques, dummy clips and pre-roll methods for seamless intros, fills, and cue-based transitions.

  • Hidden Mapping Controls: Discover under-the-radar ways to map Session View elements that aren’t normally available, including track launchers, scene scrolling, and visibility toggles.

This workshop will give you practical workflows, creative inspiration, and a performance-ready template you can adapt to any genre or setup.
