This workshop is designed to explore the essential skills and techniques to master hip hop sampling in Ableton Live.

1. Introduction to Soul Sampling
- Understanding the essence of soul sampling and its impact on modern music

2. Finding Samples
- Techniques for discovering and sourcing soul samples from various platforms
- Legal considerations and best practices for sampling and how to clear

3. Warping & Looping
- Using Ableton Live's warping tools to sync samples with your project tempo
- Techniques for creating seamless loops from sampled audio

4. Chopping Techniques
- Effective methods for chopping samples to create unique sounds
- Utilizing Ableton Live's slicing tool for precision sample chopping

5. Slicing Presets
- Exploring and creating custom slicing presets in Ableton Live
- Applying slicing presets to samples for creative manipulation and better control

6. J Dilla Style Drum Programming
- Analyzing J Dilla's signature drum patterns and techniques
- Programming soulful, off-beat drum grooves in Ableton Live

7. Soul Trap Drum Programming
- Understanding the characteristics of soul trap drums
- Creating modern, hard-hitting drum patterns that complement soul samples

8. Building Part A and B out of the Sample
- Structuring a track by building distinct sections (Part A and Part B) from a single sample
- Techniques for transitioning and evolving samples throughout the track

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of soul sampling techniques using Ableton Live.

This workshop is designed for both beginners and advanced producers who want to enhance their skills in crafting professional-quality tracks with soul samples.

 

Slicing Preset for Chopping Samples

This preset is a clone of the new factory slicing preset in Ableton Live 12.1.

You can use this slicing preset in Ableton Live 11 and newer.

Wavetable based instrument rack loaded with effects to give us a super fat and super low bass sounds that works great for hip hop and downtempo.

 

 

Compressor from Ableton Live 8

This compressor is using the feed forward algorithm and it's the offers one of the cleanest low end side chain.
