Mid/Side Processing has been gaining popularity in the last 15 years. It allows you to process your Stereo and Mono sonic information separately. Giving you more control over your sound.
You can filter, EQ, saturate, compress, or simply just change the volume differently from your Mono and Stereo content.
This technique can allow for wider mixes, Clearer basses, cleaning up samples and more!
You can already start using Mid Side Processing with Live’s EQ Eight. In EQ Eight you have 3 modes – Stereo, L/R and M/S. The M/S will give you two different EQs. One for the Mid and one for the Side.
Mid/Side Encoder Rack
To use this technique in Ableton Live with any effect I’ve built a simple rack that allows you to throw any effect on the Mid or on the Sidechains. You can also use it just for adjusting the volume of each Mid or Side. Similar to the great Center Plug-in from Waves.
To use the Rack simply drag any Audio Effect (or Plug-in) to any of the two chains.
Installation
1. Download the Device
2. Open Ableton Live
3. Double click on the .adg file
4. Click the Save button on the top right corner of the device.
*You need the latest version of Ableton Suite for this to work
Thanks for this…btw you left the info text for mid a side that must have been on another device you used to make this one…looks like it was a filter ;)
Thank you for letting me know! Fixed it.
