Ableton's Modulators Overview

Modulation, one of the most important aspect of sound design and synthesis and it's more planned out sibling - Automation -  one of the more important aspects of modern music production.

Thanks to Max for Live we are now able to use Modulation devices in endless creative ways inside Ableton Live.

From simple tremolo, pitch drift and Trance Gating with an LFO to ethereal dynamic vocal reverb, rhythm control sequencing with claps or contact mics and dynamic EQs.

In this session, we dive into Ableton Live’s Modulators folder—a resource many of us might not explore as much as we should.

We cover the MIDI Envelope, Expression Control, Envelope Follower, LFO and Shaper and the endless tricks we can do with them.

This session is guarantee to inspire and teach you some new tricks for your music.

Glitch Drums Project

Another Ableton Project to explore, In this one we're using extreme randomization techniques to create creative chaos for glitch drums with a randomized LFO to switch between drum kits and a device randomizer for extreme randomization of effects like Beat Repeat and Roar.

 

Future Saws

Custom Instrument for a modern super Saw sound taken from Wavetable Presets Vol. 2. This sound was control with our voice using the envelope follower. Watch the technique and the sound in action HERE.

 

Future Wobble

Meld based instrument to demonstrate cross modulation with both the Envelope and LFO modulating each other.

 

Custom Clapper

Create your own custom claps with the Shaper MIDI device and a noise generator.

 

Auto-Filter Auto-Wah

A classic effect built with the Auto-Filters envelope follower and side chaining to itself. Put it on guitar or keys for extra funk.
