In this workshop, we break down the art of making Disco Edits inside Ableton Live.

Disco edits are one of the best ways to learn arrangement, groove, sampling, warping, and creative remixing. The goal is not to completely rewrite the song, but to bring out the best parts, extend the groove, tighten the energy, and make the track more functional for DJs, dance floors, and modern sets.

Classic disco, boogie, funk, soul, Hi NRG, Italo, and rare groove records often have amazing moments buried inside long arrangements, live timing, awkward breakdowns, or sections that do not always work in a DJ set. In this workshop, we’ll learn how to take those records apart and rebuild them in a way that keeps the original soul intact while making them hit harder in Ableton.

This session is about understanding what makes a good edit work.

We’ll explore where to find disco samples, how to choose the right sections, extend intros and breakdowns, isolate vocals, create acapellas, rebuild drums, find bass notes, tighten timing, and add punch without destroying the vintage character of the original record.

This workshop is about using Ableton Live as both an editor and a remix tool. You’ll learn how to turn an old record, deep cut, or obscure dance track into something that feels more playable, more exciting, and more ready for a set.

How to Disco Edits
Learn the core mindset behind a disco edit: what to keep, what to cut, what to extend, and how to respect the original groove while making it more functional.

Stem Re-Mixing
Use stem separation to pull apart drums, bass, vocals, and instruments so you can rebuild sections, create new transitions, and bring hidden parts forward.

Creating and Warping Acapellas
Learn how to create usable vocal stems, clean them up or recreate them with AI, warp them correctly, and place them into new sections of the arrangement.

Re-Arranging
Turn a loose or unpredictable song structure into a stronger club arrangement with better intros, outros, drops, breakdowns, and transitions.

Re-Drumming
Add modern drums, percussion, claps, hats, or kicks to reinforce the groove while keeping the original feel alive.

Finding the Bass Notes
Identify the bass movement so you can add new bass layers, tune drums, create musical transitions, or rebuild sections more confidently.

Extending Breakdowns
Learn how to loop, stretch, filter, and build breakdowns so they become more dramatic, more DJ friendly, and more useful in a set.

Increasing and Boosting Punch
Use Ableton’s mixing and mastering tools to make old records hit harder with better loudness, cleaner low end, stronger drums, and more energy without overprocessing the track.

This session is beginner-friendly, but the workflow goes deep. Whether you’re a DJ, producer, sample-based beatmaker, or Ableton user looking to improve your editing and arrangement skills, you’ll leave with practical techniques for turning classic records and deep cuts into polished, playable disco edits.
