Melodic Breaks Demystified: Learn how to program mix your own breakbeats or/and sampled breaks.
Breakbeat Audio Editing Techniques: Master the art of manipulating breakbeat samples for maximum impact. Learn essential editing tricks to sculpt the perfect foundation for your track.
Modern Mixing and Mastering for Old-School Breaks: Breathe new life into classic break samples! Discover techniques to seamlessly integrate them into a modern mixdown and mastering process.
Crafting Breakbeat Arpeggios: Unleash the power of arpeggios and Max for Live sequencers to add dynamic melodic movement to your breaks.
Vocal Chops for Breakbeat Flavor: Learn how to chop and manipulate vocal samples to create unique rhythmic and textural elements within your breakbeat productions.
Stem Separation Secrets: Unlock the magic of separating existing tracks into individual stems (drums, bass, melody, etc.) This allows you to use classic breakbeat samples in innovative ways by incorporating specific elements into your composition.

This workshop is perfect for producers of all levels who want to push the boundaries of breakbeat production and create electrifying tracks in Ableton Live.

 

Melodic Breaks Project

Included in this session is an Ableton Project we made in class. This project will give you a foundational starting point to create your own Melodic Breaks track.

 

Break Bus Driver Rack

An exclusive Audio Effect Rack you can use on all your breakbeats tracks and/or Drum groups.

This rack combines saturations, compression, short reverbs, rhythmic delays and transient shaping.

This rack will make your drums sounds fatter and fuller.

Macros:

Drive – Waveshaping distortion from the Drum Buss

Crunch – Mid/High Distortion

GAINNN – Controls the makeup gain of the Glue Compressor before the last stage of Soft and Hard Clipping

Saturate – Analog Drive before final clipping

Room Space – Drums Plate reverb

Groove Echo – Syncopated 1/4 notes for added groove

Tilt Filter – Tilt EQ to adjust the balance of the highs and lows

Comp – Last compressor stage

 

Ableton Live 8 Compressor

Compressor from Ableton Live 8 featuring Feed Forward Side Chain compression which results in a much cleaner click free compression.

 

Synth FX Kit

Included in this session is an Effect Rack inspired by Serum's FX Section. Featuring each effect in Serum's chain but with only stock Ableton Suite 12 Audio Effects.

There are 3 variation presets for a quick sound. This tool is essential for sound design with Ableton's built-in synths as they don't have their own FX sections like many modern plug-in synths.

 

Bass Pad & Goliath

Bass pad is a fat bass sound that is designed to be played with long sustain notes (you can overlap the notes for gliding).

Goliath is a exclusive Pad preset from my Wavetable preset pack Vol. 1

Ultimate Vocal Remover

In this session, we see how to use the free Ultimate Vocal Remover for Stem Separation to extract Drums, Bass, Chords Vocals from any breakbeat.

This can be extremely useful when sampling breakbeats from old songs while we need only one instrument out of the sample.
