Another Ableton Rack is upon us and this week you get a rack that can work on any track. The Sound Heater.
The Sound Heater is a sound-warming, analog-inspiring, fuzz-melting rack. It’s based on 6(!) different Dynamic Tube effects that are being processed in Serial.
They are set to different Tube Modes and have a slightly different spectral distribution of the distortion. Which makes almost any sound you throw at it instantly warmer.
The intentional use of multiple dynamic tubes effects with serial processing and micro parameter changes gives us a different and more controlled sound than we would get with just one dynamic tube device.
To finish it all up we use the Saturator on Sinoid Fold mode with control only over the Dry/Wet.
Macros
The 7 Macros of the Sound Heater are:
Drive: the main knob drives the tubes
Pre Gain: controls the output of the first tube will introduce a lot of distortion into the chain
Post Gain: boost the overall output of the last tube before the saturate and filter
Envelope: add an envelope that makes the tubes listen to the signal and distort accordingly
Analog Filter: custom EQ8 with two high shelves combined to an analog-style Low-Pass filter
Saturate: a Saturator audio effect set on Sinoid Fold mode to add even more warmth
Dry/Wet: global Dry/Wet control for all the tubes
Installation
