ABLETON MOVE

Ableton kindly sent me a Move unit to make some music with. This device is super fast and really fun to make some jungle on so I’m sharing a free pack of old school pads and breaks to get you going.

Check out THIS VIDEO of some production techniques with the move (Huge thanks to Ableton for sponsoring this video).

Top Breaks

Amen Break: The most iconic breakbeat, originally from “Amen, Brother” by The Winstons. It’s widely used in both jungle and breakcore for its versatility and syncopation.

Think Break: From “Think (About It)” by Lyn Collins. Known for its fast, sharp snares and open hi-hat, it’s a staple in jungle and breakcore.

Funky Drummer: From James Brown’s “Funky Drummer.” The tight, funky groove is popular for its distinct snare and kick pattern.

Apache Break: From “Apache” by The Incredible Bongo Band. It has a rolling rhythm that fits well in fast-paced, complex breakcore tracks.

Hot Pants Break: From “Hot Pants” by Bobby Byrd. Its fast, snappy snares are often used to add layers of rhythmic complexity.

Soul Pride Break: From “Soul Pride” by James Brown. It’s another favorite for jungle and breakcore due to its syncopated, bouncy rhythm.

Scorpio Break: From “Scorpio” by Dennis Coffey. Its gritty, driving groove adds intensity and pace to breakcore tracks.

Cold Sweat Break: from James Brown’s track “Cold Sweat” Provides a solid foundation for layering and rearranging in fast-paced genres like breakcore.

Ableton Move workshop

In this workshop, we break down how to make music with Ableton Move, from the built in workflow to the more advanced ways you can push it further.

Ableton Move is a powerful portable music making machine, but it works differently from Ableton Live, Push, or a traditional groovebox. The goal of this workshop is to help you understand how Move thinks, how to move around quickly, and how to turn ideas into finished loops, sketches, and songs without getting stuck.

We’ll explore the core Move workflow, including sequencing, instruments, effects, sampling, chopping, audio tracks, and creative performance techniques. Whether you are brand new to Move, still trying to understand it, or looking for deeper tricks, this session will help you feel more confident and creative with the device.

This workshop is also about going beyond the built in features.

We’ll look at Schwung, formerly Move Everything, which unlocks deeper control and extra creative possibilities for Move. We’ll also explore RNBO Takeover Mode, which opens the door to custom instruments, effects, visuals, and experimental patches built specifically for Move.

You’ll also get the included Ableton Move Cheat Sheet PDF, with shortcuts, hidden commands, and workflow tips you can keep next to you while using the device.

This session will focus on:

  • How to Ableton Move
  • Sequencing Techniques
  • Instruments & Effects
  • Sampling & Chopping
  • Link Audio
  • Going beyond with Schwung (Move Everything)
  • RNBO Takeover Mode
  • INCLUDED: Ableton Move Cheat Sheet PDF
