Juke/Footwork Overview - Scroll Down for an Audio Demo of the Track We Made in Class.

In this session we dive into the jittery world of Juke and Footwork production. From rapid-fire drums to hypnotic vocal chops, you’ll learn the techniques that define the Chicago sound while building your own original tracks.

Key Learning Points:

  • How to Juke/Footwork – Explore the signature sound, tempo, and feel that make the style unique.

  • Intricate Rhythms – Program fast, syncopated patterns and layered percussion.

  • Step Divider Sequencing – Use advanced sequencing workflows to create rolling, chopped-up drum variations.

  • Sampled Chords – Build lush stabs and progressions from sampled material.

  • Vocal Chops – Cut and rework vocals into rhythmic hooks and call-and-response patterns.

  • 808 Subs – Design heavy sub-bass lines that hit hard and drive the groove.

  • Track Arrangement – Structure your track with breakdowns, builds, and drops to keep the energy moving.

Whether you’re new to the style or looking to refine your sound, this workshop gives you the tools to produce authentic, club-ready Juke and Footwork in Ableton Live.
