Serum 2 Overview

This session is all about exploring the cutting-edge sound design possibilities of Serum 2! We’ll dive deep into its powerful new features and sampling/re-synthesis techniques that were introduced in the new version. Whether you're a longtime Serum user or just getting started, this workshop will guide you through everything new and exciting in Serum 2.

Introduction: Navigating Serum 2

Get up to speed with the updated Serum interface, and learn how to quickly find and use the new sound engines filter types, modulation tools, updated FX section, and routing mixer. We’ll also cover Serum 2’s compatibility enhancements and performance upgrades.

Granular & Spectral Synthesis

Unpack the new granular and spectral capabilities added in Serum 2. Learn how to use them to create textural, time-stretched, or spectral-morphed sounds, loops and sequences.

OSC Mapping

We'll also dive into the new oscillator mapping functions for key splitting and voice distribution with the Hold and Warp functions.

Chaos Modulation

Explore advanced modulation with Rossler and Lorenz Chaos generators and map them to any parameter.

ARP & Clip

Learn about the newly added arpeggiator and MIDI clip editor and use Serum as a DAW.

Serum 2 Filters & Wavetables

Discover the rich new filter models and exclusive Serum 2 wavetables and Filters.

Multi-Sample Engine & SF2 to SFZ Conversion

Take advantage of the multi-sample engine by importing your own samples or converting SF2 files into SFZ for use within Serum 2. We’ll walk through the entire process and demonstrate how to layer them with wavetables for hybrid synthesis.

Advanced Routing Techniques

Get hands-on with Serum 2’s flexible routing system. Learn how to create custom signal paths, parallel filter chains, and fx stacks that go beyond traditional subtractive workflows.

 

By the end of this workshop, you’ll be armed with a deep understanding of Serum 2 and its expanded synthesis engine. Whether you're designing bass for techno, pads for film scores, or glitchy textures for experimental music, you’ll leave with new tools, ideas, and patches to elevate your productions.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Yeuda Ben-Atar, a world renowned Ableton Certified Trainer, hails from Los Angeles, California. Originally from Israel, Yeuda’s passion for music led him to the United States, where he discovered his true calling with Ableton Live in 2007, embarking on a journey of mastery.

He approaches Ableton in a unique way; producing and performing with video game controllers under the moniker Side Brain.

One of Yeuda’s most remarkable qualities is his exceptional knowledge and speed, combined with his unparalleled ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and engaging manner.

With years of experience as a music production instructor and educator, Yeuda has contributed his expertise to prestigious institutions throughout the United States, including USC, UCLA, UCSD, Colburn Music School, Berkley School of Music, Cal Arts, NAMM, Skywalker Sounds, Bedrock LA, Sonos Studios, Sweetwater Headquarters, 1500 or Nothing studios, Grammy U, Pensado’s Place, Vintage King, Museum of Making Music, Lynda.com (now known as Linkedin Learning), and Perfect Circuit Audio, among many others.
